Towards a Structurational Model of Green Information Systems

Green information systems is increasingly gaining appeal as a mechanism for firms to balance financial performance and environmental sustainability goals. We argue, however, that, the role of green IS practices has been under conceptualized in the green IS literature. This paper takes a practice theory view, using structurational theory, to re-conceptualize the green IS phenomenon through a practice theory lens. A practice theory perspective enables researchers to form a basis of understanding about green IS in which individual or multiple process-models can be developed to capture aspects of green IS practices that currently evade the literature.
